For
the United States of America Iron Man is a madcap millionaire with expensive
iron armour controlled with printed circuitry and half a dozen lethal weapons
at his command. Compared to this high tech Iron Man, the Iron Man of Indian
politics, Sardar Patel, is no comic
character, he is rather a person far taller than most in Indian history. Sardar Patel was part of a battery of
British trained lawyers who argued a case for India’s independence and won it;
he was part of a generation brought up on Burke and Mill and filled with the
spirit of doing something for his country. Like Gandhi his weapons were Ahimsa,
