The Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) has taken
many decisions which have proven to be detrimental for it. The latest one in
this series is its support to ban the opinion
polls carried out by various media houses and survey companies. The
Opposition has termed it not only vague but also undemocratic. It has led to a
bitter war of words ensuing between the major parties. And with the Election
Com - mission of India (ECI) asking the Centre to ban opinion polls from the
date when the election code of conduct comes into force, Congress’ image will
